Rt 78 was a shuttle which operated from Darby to Lansdowne via Wycombe Road. It had been cut back from Folsom to Darby in 1934.
On June 22 1947, Rt 78 was converted to bus operation and eventually extended through Yeadon to 52nd Street and Baltimore Avenue in West Philadelphia, connecting with trolley routes 34, 46, and 70 and bus route G.
